Foster The People came together in late 2009 when Mark Foster met band mates Cubbie Fink and Mark Ponitus through mutual friends in the Los Angeles music scene. Foster hailing from Cleveland, OH had been writing and recording music since his youth but it wasnt until the three members came together that Fosters music for the bands upcoming debut release, Torches, was ready for friends to hear.

In early 2010, Foster The People posted their first song "Pumped Up Kicks" on the internet. Days later it was used to score a friends fashion video, days after that it showed up on Hype Machine and a year later it had seemed to make its way into the ears of millions of listeners around the world.

2011 has been an incredible year for Foster The People. Columbia Records is proud to announce that the Los Angeles based trio has received two Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

The band is on a streak of celebrations, as their album Torches recently hit Gold certification and their single, Pumped Up Kicks, was certified 3x Platinum in both Canada and the U.S. The band made stops at SNL and Ellen to perform the hit single. They also made an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman where they played their second single Helena Beat and next month the band will return to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to perform their next single Dont Stop (Color On The Walls.)

Torches gained global attention with its Top 10 Billboard and Nielsen SoundScan chart debut in May. The album is chalk full of upbeat, multicultural left-of-center pop songs that are shaped by Mark Fosters sharp pop songwriting and crisp productions, explains the Los Angeles Times who were early supporters of the local band. To date Torches has generated singles in Pumped Up Kicks, Helena Beat, Dont Stop (Color On The Walls,) and Call It What You Want.

For Foster the Peoples next single Dont Stop (Color On The Walls), the band worked with the UK MVA Video of the Year awarded duo Daniels to film a 3D music video, which co-stars Gabourey Sidibe, for the Nintendo Video service on the Nintendo 3DS system.
