Red was formed in 2004, when they began playing covers of popular contemporary Christian music to youth groups in the area of Pennsylvania. According to lead singer, Mike Barnes, they chose the name Red "as a symbol for the blood of Christ and what it represents; passion, pain, but ultimately, redemption." "People are hitting on subjects that are deeper and darker," Armstrong says. "I think its just a sign of Christian music evolving. But at the end of the day, no matter what the message is wrapped in, the music is still about redemption. How people got out of their struggles and into their relationship with God." "Breathe Into Me" was the first single from "End of Silence." Red was signed to Sony BMG's Christian label, Essential Records. They released their debut album End of Silence on June 6th, 2006. The album was produced by Grammy-nominated song writer/producer Rob Graves. The album's first single "Breathe Into Me" peaked at #15 on the US mainstream rock charts. The song won the "Rock Recorded Song of the Year" award at the 38th annual GMA Dove Awards (2007).[2] The band started touring in the fall of 2006 with Kutless and Disciple. They continued touring through February 2007 with Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Flyleaf, Puddle of Mudd, and Sevendust. The band also made appearances at the Christian teen conference Acquire the Fire. "Let Go" used by CBS in promotion for the hit drama show, Without a Trace. The song was used during the midday and prime time spots through Wednesday, May 9, 2007. According to Red's MySpace, they are currently working on a second album.
